Georgia’s basketball season ended with a 79-60 loss to Mississippi State at the SEC Tournament on Thursday as the Bulldogs could not defend their SEC Championship. Georgia won the SEC Tournament Championship in dramatic fashion as a 12 seed last year, winning two games in one day in the process, but this year no such luck was on the Bulldogs’ side. Terrance Woodbury led Georgia with 14 points in his final collegiate game, while freshman Trey Thompkins added 12. Corey Butler scored six points in what was his final game at Georgia.
With the loss, the Bulldogs finish their season at 12-20 and the program will now hit the home stretch in its search for a new head coach. Pete Herrmann moved from assistant to head coach after former head coach Dennis Felton was relieved of his duties on Jan. 29. Herrmann compiled a 3-8 record in his time leading the program. Since conference tournaments are wrapping up this weekend and the NCAA Tournament gets underway next weekend, the Bulldogs can conceivably have a coach in place sometime within the next two weeks, as the seasons of prospective candidates will be ending.
