When it comes to football, wins against archrival Marist have been hard to come by, as the War Eagles had defeated Pius in 25 of the last 26 games as of last week. Make that 25 of 27, as Pius notched a huge 21-10 victory on Friday night. A quick start was crucial for the Golden Lions, as they gained confidence by scoring on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead. The first score came on a 28-yard pass from P.G. Standard to Matt Pierce. Cole Moon scored on the next drive. Marist hung around and trailed 21-7 at halftime, but a 1-yard Marist touchdown run was called back by a penalty in the second half, forcing Marist to kick a field goal as Pius led 21-10. The Golden Lions travel to Greater Atlanta Christian this week for a 7:30 p.m. game. … The No. 2-ranked volleyball team gets back to action this week with home matches against Carver-Atlanta and Washington this Tuesday and Westminster and Dacula on Thursday. The team will also host the St. Pius X Playday Tournament, which takes place all day long on Saturday.
