Football fans in Cherokee County are preparing for the latest installment of the Towne Lake rivalry. One of the surprise teams in Class 5A this year, Etowah boasts a 4-0 record and a couple of quality wins over teams like McEachern and Kennesaw Mountain. With running back Ryan Boykin leading the way, the Eagles should be in the running for the top seed out of Region 5. The Woodstock Wolverines picked up their first win of the season last week against Marietta. Etowah is fresh off a win over another county and region rival, Cherokee, by the score of 35-6. In that contest, the Eagles racked up four touchdowns and 270 yards of offense in the first quarter alone to rout the Warriors. Quarterback James Harris runs an efficient offense dominated by the run. The Wolverines put up a season-high 32 points at home against Marietta last week, having to come from behind in the game to get their first victory. Justin Thompson put in the go-ahead score for his team, and quarterback Taylor Trotter had over 100 yards in passing (110) and rushing (119). Woodstock hopes that homefield magic will be working again this Friday against one of Etowah’s best squads in recent memory.
