In football, Wekiva traveled from Florida to square off against host North Gwinnett. A scoreless first quarter kept the game tied heading into the second, but Wekiva Senior running back Brandon Hill buried into the end zone from the 1-yard line to put the Mustangs up 7-0 with 7:47 left in the half. A fumble by North Gwinnett receiver Josh Downs was recovered by Malcolm Green and returned for a second Mustang touchdown. With 1:23 left in the half, Bulldog quarterback JR Martin found Javonni Cunningham for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Late in the third, a second touchdown rush for Hill extended Wekiva’s lead to 21-7. North Gwinnett found pay dirt again from a Devin Crosby touchdown reception in the middle of the fourth but were unable to score again. Hill found the end zone once more in the fourth to give him three scores on the night and help secure the out-of-state win.
Southwest Dekalb scored 24 unanswered points in the first half of their matchup against Tri-Cities. The Bulldogs managed to score their first touchdown of the night before the end of the first half but would not score for the rest of the game. Southwest went on to score 13 more points in the second half to put away Tri-Cities 37-7. Stockbridge shutout Carver 41-0, in large part to a crushing performance from Junior quarterback Jevon McDonald. His ability to run with the ball helped him rack up 172 yards rushing with three touchdowns. Markell Ramsey and Steve Bonner added to the success from the running game with a pair of touchdowns. On defense, Senior Kerick Reese lead the team with 6 tackles.
On the volleyball court, Adairsville defeated Cass 9-4 in the Bartow County Softball Championship Tournament to claim third place in the event. Woodland-Cartersville finished strong in the event, defeated Cartersville 11-3 to claim first place in the tournament.
In Softball, Woodland Cartersville defeated Cartersville 11-3 after losing to them 4-3 earlier in the season. With only two wins on the season, Adairsville came up big against Cass to take home the win after a 9-4 performance.
