Ronnie Smith keeps the Lions close against the state’s #2 team

The football team needed a perfect game in hopes of upsetting the nation’s No. 2-ranked team, Lowndes, last Friday. They didn’t get it, as turnovers and penalties led to a 22-7 loss. Ronnie Smith led the Lions with 77 yards rushing. The Lions travel to Northview this Friday. … The No. 4-ranked softball team defeated Duluth last Wednesday 10-2 thanks to another stellar pitching effort by Krysten Connelly (8-3), this time in relief. Gabby Bedard led the Lions (11-3) at the plate with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. The girls won again on Thursday, defeating Norcross 2-0. Connelly got the start and flourished, pitching a complete-game shutout and striking out 11 batters. … The boys cross country team finished sixth in the Berry Invitational last Saturday. Niall Longobardi had the Lions’ best time of 16:57. The girls cross country team finished seventh at the Berry Invitational. Sara Curry led the girls with a time of 20:10. Both the boys and girls teams will compete in the Carrollton Invitational this Saturday.
