Rome has seen several swimmers qualify for the state meet including several relay teams that could be heard from later this year. Rome’s girls 200-medley relay team, 200-free relay team and 400-free relay team qualified in a recent meet against River Ridge and Cherokee while the boys 200- and 400-free relay teams also qualified. Grady Edmondson, Carter Hightower and Winston McCormick were on both of the boys teams while Christine Hostetler was on all three of the girls squads.
The No. 3 AAAAAA boys and No. 1 AAAAAA girls Brookwood teams are once again looking for state hardware. Sam Tate has been improving his backstroke and IM times while Dylan Brown is proving to be a two-event threat for the Broncos. On the girls’ side of the pool, Haylie Dixon and Anna Jahns have the Brookwood faithful dreaming of the program’s first girls title since 2004. The boys won three straight from 2008-10.
Brookwood’s Gwinnett rival Parkview is also looking for a pair of titles this year. The boys Class AAAAAA No. 1 and girls Class AAAAAA No. 2 recently dispatched Alpharetta as Peter Meadows, Geoffrey Carter and Rory Martin paced the boys while Megan Yang, Morgan Fleming, Marianna Markley and Chelsea Keown led the girls to blowout wins.
