The volleyball squad (21-19) placed second in the Area 1-AAA tournament and advanced to the state sectionals. Riverwood defeated Kendrick in the first round 3-1 before losing to Creekview in the second round, 3-2. … The softball team competed in the Class 3A North sectional last week. Riverwood’s season ended, however, after losing its first two games to Central-Carroll 12-0 and to Creekview 8-0. The Lady Raiders ended the season with an 18-13 overall record. … The girls cross country team won the Pike County Invitational in Zebulon, Ga., on Oct. 18. The runners were led by Bret McDaniel, who won the overall title. Riverwood had four of the top five runners in the small classifications division. The boys team finished second at the same meet and were paced by Phillip Jones and Daniel Cohen, who finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the small classifications division. … The football team (2-6) defeated Therrell on Oct. 17 before losing last Friday to Washington. The Raiders travel to undefeated St. Pius X on Friday night.
