RICHT DISMISSES METTENBERGER: QB thrown off team after new details emerge about arrest

UGA redshirt freshman QB Zach Mettenberger was thrown off the team on Sunday by head coach Mark Richt. Mettenberger had been suspended one game already due to a disorderly conduct arrest over Spring Break in Remerton, Ga.

According to multiple sources, Mettenberger lied to Richt about what happened at the bar where he was arrested.

The Watkinsville native becomes the second player dismissed this month after Montez Robinson who was disciplined last week.

Mettenberger was believed to have been thrown off the team due to new details that have emerged stemming from his arrest. The new details were recently brought to the attention of the coaching staff by individuals who were close to the situation in Remerton.

Georgia will now have three scholarship QBs on the team for next fall, including true freshman Hutson Mason. The Bulldogs will likely pursue HS quarterbacks Christian LeMay of Matthews, NC, and Nick Marshall of Wilcox County in South Georgia for the 2011 signing class.
