The high-school football season is well underway and if you haven’t already noticed, the players around the area are bigger, stronger and faster than they have ever been before. Following suit, Region 6-AAAAA has become a gold mine for college scouts over the past couple of years. Guys like Jonathan Dwyer, T.J. Yates and Aaron Kelly are all alumni of the region and are now making names for themselves on Saturdays. This year, the region has plenty of talent and a handful of players that will become Saturday stars next season. Here is a look at some of the top recruits in the region.
OUT-OF-COUNTY PLAYERS
The majority of the teams in the region call Cobb County home. There are a few schools in the region, however, in Fulton County and some of these teams have players that will continue their football careers beyond the high-school level.
One player to watch is Centennial defensive end Euclid Cummings, who is probably the best defender in all of North Fulton. He stands at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds and can fly to the football. Georgia Tech, Tennessee and North Carolina are some of the schools that are interested in him.
Running back Toney Williams from Milton has already committed to Tennessee. The 6-1, 227 bruiser had over 1,100 yards last year and will compete for playing time in Knoxville immediately, as current Volunteer Arian Foster is set to graduate.
Finally, Chuka Okakpu, a talented wide receiver from Roswell, stands at an impressive 6-4 and weighs 180 pounds. He possesses the prototypical size for a Division I receiver and, though he does not have many offers to date, he has the production to prove it. Remember the name Okakpu because he is going to be a force on the next level.
COBB COUNTY STUDS
Walton has produced some great players that have gone on to do big things on Saturdays. Hamilton Holiday (Vanderbilt), Justin Forte (Richmond) and Aaron Kelly (Clemson) are just a few college stars to have donned the white and blue. This year, David Paulsen is the guy getting all the looks from scouts, as he is known for his size, intensity and effort. He is also a hybrid player that can play defensive end and linebacker. Other players for Walton expecting to make it to the next level are Ray Rayburn, Michael Boydston, Price Garrett and Brady Biggers.
Lassiter also has a couple of players with the ability to play at the major college level. Philip Lutzenkirchen is considered one of the best tight ends in the country and has committed to Auburn. Offensive lineman Camden Wentz has committed to Stanford and is known for his great footwork and aggressiveness.
Some Longhorns from Kell also have college potential, as skill players Will Middleton and Marlon Anthony are highly coveted prospects. Middleton is another potential star at tight end and has gotten offers from Rutgers and South Carolina. Anthony is a receiver that has great size (6-5, 185) and has received offers from Marshall, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
Finally, Wheeler’s Steven Margherio is also a player to keep an eye on. He has not gotten offers from the bigger schools yet, but can play both defensive end and linebacker and has good size, standing at 6-2 and 204 pounds.
