DeKalb County coaching legend Marvin Pruitt clinched win No. 500 on Tuesday as Redan shutout Banneker 14-0. Pruitt became the first baseball coach in DeKalb history to reach 400 wins and sits a top 500 wins as the only coach to achieve the feat.
Pruitt led Redan to its first state championship last season and has led the Raiders to semifinals appearances in 2003 and 2010. His record at Redan is 281-116-3 as of Wednesday April, 2. Pruitt has also coached at Lakeside-DeKalb, Southwest DeKalb, Stephenson and Rockdale County. The 31-year coach plans to retire after this season.
