Football team wins two straight after winless start

Not only did the football team get its first win of the season when it beat Douglass 18-12 on Oct. 17, but the Raiders followed that up this past Friday with their second consecutive win, an 18-13 triumph over Luella. Justin Sims rushed for a touchdown and Akil Dan-Fadio passed for two scores, including a 22-yard play to Detray Shivers in the victory over Luella. The Raiders defense also came up big, as Jacques Gholston and Co. pressured the Lions passing game and the secondary came up with the game-clinching interception. Against Douglass, Dan-Fadio threw a touchdown pass and Javoris Bryant hauled in three catches for 54 yards. Redan (2-5-1, 2-3) remains alive for a playoff spot out of Region 2-AAAAA, as the team takes on M.L. King on Friday. … The volleyball team was eliminated from the Area 2-AAAAA Tournament after losing to Northside-Warner Robins and Houston County. Redan (23-9) beat Stephenson, but played all three matches with a new lineup, as three of its starters were out of town taking college visits. … Soyong Smith finished 11th at the girls DeKalb County Cross Country Championships with a time of 22:25.02.
