Red Devils stumble in opener, look to rebound against Avondale

With his most experienced team in years, head football coach Kip Hall has stated that he believes this team can have a winning season, its first since 1988. Unfortunately for Hall, the Devils did not get off to a good start, falling 27-0 to Decatur last Friday. Quarterback Jay Cromwell and company couldn’t get anything going offensively, an area where the Red Devils expected to excel this season. A win this week over Avondale now becomes an important game in the Red Devils’ hopes for a winning season. … The volleyball team, which played in the Class 3A State Tournament last year, swept through Columbia and Southwest DeKalb on Thursday with two wins. They have the week off before returning to action on Tuesday at Tucker. … The softball team was 2-0 at press time and travels to face Columbia on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Then, on Tuesday, the team faces Dunwoody at 5:30 p.m.
