RECRUITING TRAIL: Lowndes, McEachern recruits shine

Score 44 member Josh Harvey-Clemons made 11 tackles, nab an interception, break up a pass, play QB, run the ball multiple times and catch two passes in Lowndes’ loss to McEachern. The 6-foot-5, 208-pounder could play OLB or safety at the next level, although some programs will undoubtedly recruit him for offense as well. … USF stole a game in South Bend over the weekend against Notre Dame, and it appears they have stolen a recruit from Powder Springs. OL Kofi Amichia looked great against top competition Friday as his No. 3 Indians beat Lowndes for the second straight year. Don’[t be surprised to see SEC and ACC programs try to talk Amichia out of his Big East commitment as the year progresses. … McEachern QB Trent Thompson is opening eyes, as his team has sprinted out to a 3-0 record and No. 3 ranking. Thompson is committed to Georgia State, but a QB who knows how to lead and win will be enticing to many college programs. Like with Amichia, don’t be shocked if Thompson begins receiving offers from more programs, in spite of his GSU pledge. Against one of the best and most athletic defenses in the state, Thompson was 16-of-30 for 188 yards. … Another Score 44 player, John Atkins, committed to Georgia Friday before his game at Lakeside-Evans, and was recruited by the Dawg to play either nose guard or defensive end in the Bulldogs’ 3-4 defensive scheme. Atkins will take his official visit to Georgia this weekend for the South Carolina game, but pans to visit Athens several times during the fall. “Atkins is one of the more versatile and athletic big men in this class and could potentially help the Bulldogs on either side of the ball,” said ESPN recruiting expert Craig Haubert. “With a hulking frame and the ability to run well he will likely at least start out on defense where he could be a nice fit at nose though the three-hundred pounder could potentially move around the line and help as needed, adding quality depth to the defensive front.”
