College basketball’s regular signing period opened up Wednesday, and eyes across America focused on Miller Grove’s Tony Parker. While the 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year for Georgia didn’t commit Wednesday night during his appearance on ESPNU, plenty of other players around the state made their intentions known. Wheeler’s Charles “Chuck” Mitchell signed with the Maryland Terps Wednesday after pledging just this past Sunday. Mitchell was a mainstay on the Score 44 this year as he helped the Wildcats to the Region 5-AAAAA title.
Monroe High School’s Rantavious Gilbert will be headed to Appalachian State after pledging to the Mountaineers on Saturday. The 6-foot-8 PF from Albany averaged 10 points per game last year while pulling in five rebounds and averaging three blocks per game. Parker’s Miller Grove teammate Justin Colvin signed yesterday with Alabama A&M. The 6-foot-2 guard pledged to the Bulldogs back on March 29. Damian Goodwin of Columbia is headed to Southern University after signing his letter of intent. Goodwin helped Columbia to the AAA state title in Macon last month.
St. Francis star Nigel Jackson, a 6-foot-7 PF is drawing interest from Alabama State and could sign with the program soon. Harrison’s all-time leading scorer Ryan Blumenthal, who made an appearance on the Score 44 this year, is visiting New Hampshire according to OnTheRadarHoops.com. Elitebasketball.com also noted that he will visit Valdosta State and Georgia College before signing.
Finally patience seems to be paying off for Milton forward Tevin Glass. The 6-foot-8 PF received an offer from Memphis last week to go with an offer he holds from Auburn. New South Carolina head coach Frank Martin will visit Glass later today. Glass would give Milton four seniors headed to major programs as Evan Nolte has already signed with Virginia, Charles Mann is headed to Georgia and Shaq Johnson will attend Auburn.
