The name Radakovich is a famous one around Atlanta as Dan Radakovich serves as the AD at Georgia Tech. His son Grant played on the Walton football team one year ago that made its way to the state championship game before falling to Grayson in the Georgia Dome. Radakovich signed a football scholarship with Mars Hill back in February, but he recently asked for and was granted a release, and he will instead suit up for Mercer in 2013. Radakovich’s coach Rocky Hidalgo said of the prospect, “I think Grant will be a great player wherever he ends up. He is athletic enough to make a great impact as a tight end. He runs very well and has great hands. As an offensive lineman, he has a great frame and is physical and tough enough to play anywhere on the offensive line.”
Brandon Morris, Tony Evans and Christian Houston of Miller Grove took part in the third annual DeKalb County All-Star Basketball Classic at Miller Grove Tuesday. The three suited up for coach Sharman White one final time as White’s All-Stars beat Dwayne McKinney’s All-Stars 124-101. Houston hit seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 to pick up MVP honors while Morris scored 10. After the game, White called Houston “the most underrated point guard in the state,” on his twitter account. He also praised Evans’ career with Miller Grove. De’Aires Tate of ML King scored 22 for White’s team and Maurice Mays of Redan chipped in 11 points. Columbia standouts Chris Horton scored 23 and Jarmal Reid had 14 for McKinney’s squad.
In the girls game, Chantay Frost’s All-Stars beat out Renee Breedlove’s All-Stars 64-51. The Columbia and Miller Grove coaches also had quite the collection of talent, including Chamblee’s Breanna McDonald, and Columbia’s Ebony Johnson and Zuri Frost.
Just because Tony Parker has finally declared his intentions to head west for UCLA, that doesn’t mean the recruiting cycle is slowing down in the least. Mark Fox and the Georgia Bulldog basketball team didn’t wait long to offer the scholarship that would have gone to Miller Grove’s Parker to someone else, reportedly offering Landmark Christian’s Houston Kessler. The 6-foot-8 nephew of Alec Kessler, UGA’s career No. 2 scorer, accepted, becoming the fourth member of the recruiting class. According to Gentry Estes of Dawgsports.com, Kessler, a forward, “can shoot from the perimeter … (is) a decent ball-handler … can play with (his) back to the basket.” Kessler will join Whitefield Academy’s Kenny Gaines, Milton’s Charles Mann and Miller Grove’s Morris in Athens next season.
