As spring football continues across the state, college offers keep pouring in for Georgia’s top prospects. Carver-Columbus wide receiver Marqui Hawkins pulled the trigger on a commitment to Florida after receiving more than 15 offers, including USC, Tennessee and North Carolina. Hawkins was projected by the Official Visit’s Scott Janovitz as one of the top receivers in the state back in March.
According to Chris Wagner, a coach at Parkview, Chris Carson picked up his ninth offer after Buffalo came forward with a scholarship. The 6-foot-1 athlete is a three-star according to Rivals.com and holds offers from Akron, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio, South Florida and Troy. Last year as a running back, Carson rushed for more than 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The love is starting to come for Arabia Mountain linebacker Kight Dallas. After Dallas committed to South Carolina in April, several teams have offered including Purdue and Arkansas as of yesterday. The 6-foot-1 prospect is projected as an inside linebacker at the next level.
Future Maryland Terp wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo wasn’t able to capture a state title with McEachern on the football field, but he will take some hardware to College Park after the recent Georgia Olympics. Etta-Tawo helped McEachern take the Class AAAAA 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:17.51.
The biggest standout from Class AAAAA was perhaps Coffee’s Tyreek Hill, who won the 200-meter dash as well as the 100-meter dash with the fastest time in the state. Hill was a multi-sport star for Coffee and recently signed to play football at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan. He was named MVP of the Georgia/Florida All-Star game after his senior year, and he projects to play running back at the next level despite his 5-foot-9 size.
Finally, according to ESPN’s Greg Ostendorf, the Alabama Crimson Tide secured the commitment of Salt Lake City quarterback Cooper Bateman earlier today. Bateman is ranked No. 61 in the ESPN 150 and the No. 6 quarterback in the class of 2013. Reports had circulated last week that Alabama head coach Nick Saban had Skyped for 90 minutes with Camden County quarterback and UGA pledge Brice Ramsey.
