Despite a new coaching staff and a recent NCAA ruling against the Tar Heel program, North Gwinnett defensive back Donnie Miles pledged to the University of North Carolina after a recent visit. According to a report on CBSSports.com, Miles said the recent NCAA ruling “didn’t affect my decision. I believe in coach (Larry Fedora) and how he’s turning the program around.” Miles suffered through an ankle injury for a large part of last year. Said North Gwinnett head coach Bob Sphire of Miles, “he has a tremendous love for the game.” Miles made the biggest play of the North Gwinnett/Norcross game last year on GPB when he intercepted a pass with less than two minutes to play, enabling the Bulldogs to score the game-winning touchdown and escape with a 29-22 victory.
Robert Nkemdiche says May 18 will be the day he declares his college intentions. The Grayson defensive end ranked by several recruiting services as the top player in the nation, has narrowed his list down to Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Clemson and UGA. Nkemdiche just returned from a visit to LSU, which he rated a “10.” His brother attends Ole Miss and his best friend, Grayson defensive back David Kamara recently received a scholarship offer to Clemson. The defending Class AAAAA champions wrap up spring practice on May 18, the same day Nkemdiche will declare.
Finally, Miller Grove head coach Sharman White said that interest in senior guard Christian Houston is starting to pick up. Houston helped the Wolverines to a fourth straight Class AAAA state title last week as he played through back pains. Look for the 6-foot-1 Houston to make a decision during the late signing period. Houston was on fire for Miller Grove in the region playoffs, posting back-to-back 23-point outings to lead the Wolverines to the 6-AAAA title.
