Reclassification Shakes Up Lacrosse Making For An Intriguing Beginning To 2025

Lacrosse will look a little bit different in 2025 especially with the reclassification taking place as teams got shuffled around the state. Instead of Class A-4A, Class 5A-6A, and Class 7A, it will be replaced by three divisions: division 1, division 2, and division 3.

Division 1 will be headlined by Allatoona, Blessed Trinity, Centennial, and Westminster. Westminster, Allatoona, and Blessed Trinity have all won state championships in their program’s history. Centennial made a run all the way to the state championship before losing to Roswell. Division 2 will be headlined by Roswell, Pope, and McIntosh. Roswell is the two-time defending state champions and has a myriad of young talent who have waited their turn. McIntosh will be led this year by one of the top attacking midfielders/attackers Gavin Young who led the state in points scored.

Division 3 will have the least amount of teams of all the divisions with just 36 teams. It will be headlined by Buford, Lambert, West Forsyth, and Walton. In 2023, Buford and Lambert played in the same area and split the season series. Buford got the better of Lambert in the state championship, edging the power 14-13 in overtime for its first-ever state championship. West Forsyth won its first ever state championship in 2023 and defeated Lambert in the process. Walton had one of its best seasons in recent memory finishing with 18 wins before losing to Lambert 8-7 in the semifinals.

Four of the six top scorers from a season ago will return to the sport in 2025.

Here is a look at who will be back on the field:

McIntosh Midfielder/Attacker Gavin Young 114 points (senior)

Walker Attacker Finley Radding 111 points (senior)
