Raiders survive late scare, beat Carver-Atlanta 37-19

The Raiders managed to fight past a tough Carver-Atlanta squad on Friday to win their opener 37-19. The game was close throughout and appeared to be tied at 20-20, midway through the third quarter. A penalty, however, brought back a 24-yard touchdown run by Carver and the Raiders weren’t threatened the rest of the way. On Friday the team will host Douglass for the team’s home opener at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team’s offense has struggled ever since a 17-run burst a week ago against Grady. Since then, the team has lost two in a row in the region. The Lady Raiders look to bounce back against Douglas County on Wednesday and then Starr’s Mill the following Tuesday. … The volleyball team lost its match to Pace Academy in straight sets, 25-18 and 25-9. The team’s defense played strong, digging out enough balls to keep the match close early, but wore down in the second set, as Pace’s talented offensive players proved to be too much. The team will travel on Tuesday to McIntosh for two region games against Fayette County and McIntosh.
