Raiders’ 2008 season about more than just football

The following is from Walton High School student correspondent Kevin Adler …

All last week at Walton, everyone had been anticipating the football game Saturday against Brookwood in the Georgia Dome. The game was already important to everyone, but the death of football player Aaron Cleveland made it that much more significant, especially for the football team.

Football players Matt Cheek and Joey Caforio designed and ordered t-shirts in memory of Aaron, who was a sophomore wide receiver. Every day for the week leading up to the game, Walton students showed their support for Aaron Cleveland and his family by purchasing the shirts. The money from the sales will go to the Aaron Cleveland Foundation. The goal for all the people going to the game was to wear white to honor him.

At game time on Saturday, the whole Walton student section was a sea of white in memory of Aaron. The start of the game was very emotional for everyone on the Walton side. Throughout the game, the student section was constantly loud and in support of the team, helping them in the 14-9 defeat of Brookwood.

It was a week of grieving that ended on a positive note. The entire 2008 season, without a doubt, will be dedicated to Aaron Cleveland.
