QUICK HITS: Tiger returns but loses, AJC chooses slam dunk finalists and Kelin learns how to dive

OK, so he’s not invincible. After nine long Tiger Woods-less months, the icon himself returned to the green Wednesday at the Accenture Match Play Championship and, for the most part, looked like the Tiger of old in a victory over Brendan Jones. Unfortunately, the layoff finally took its toll on Woods on Thursday, as he suffered a 4 and 2 loss to Tim Clark.

Still, by all accounts Woods did far better than likely anyone could after such a long absence and still showed that we will not have to wait much longer to see his return to dominance. He even said afterwards, “I’m very pleased, actually, with the way I hit the golf ball. … Also the way my leg feels, after walking, and especially on this golf course, going up and down cart paths, especially down the cart paths, my leg feels pretty good.” And when asked if he was suffering from any pain now, Woods said, “No pain at all. Zero.” For a full report as well as video highlights, click here.

It’s a great time to be a fan of high school sports, as the basketball state tournaments begin Friday (girls) and Saturday (boys) and the spring seasons are officially underway as well. If you haven’t checked them out already, make sure to read Ricky Dimon’s blog on some difficult matchups in the boys basketball Class 5A tournament, as well as Fletcher Proctor’s report on Walton girls tennis picking up its 100th consecutive victory on Thursday – no, that was not a typo. Also, Score Atlanta webcasted the finals of the wrestling state tournament last Saturday and if you didn’t get a chance to catch the action, click here.

And sticking with the hardwood, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Slam Dunk Contest is now in its final round. Norcross’ Adrian Hubbard, Griffin’s Shaq Barber and Westlake’s Marcus Thornton have been chosen as the finalists, so check out their phenomenal dunks and vote for the winner, who will be announced on March 2. All three are deserving but just like in Round 1, I have to stick with Thornton – between the legs and just past the foul line? Good enough for me.

Took me a while to discover this for some reason, but the Atlanta Thrashers have a great video library available here. Best of all – go to the left hand side and click on the “Blue Crew.” Interviews, photo shoots and hot women in bikinis … need I say more?

Finally, former Bulldogs defensive back Kelin Johnson is still hoping to see some action in the NFL after being cut by the Seattle Seahawks in 2008 but while we certainly wish him luck, he may have a future in the broadcasting business in the meantime. On GeorgiaDogs.com, Johnson brought back his segment called “Kelin’s Korner” for the first time since December. In the most recent edition (posted Thursday), he sat down with senior diver Webb Worthington, who even taught Johnson some diving techniques and faced him in a “dive-off.” We’ve seen Kelin tear it up on the gridiron – now you can watch his hysterical attempts off the diving board. (It’s safe to say Worthington doesn’t have to worry about Johnson stealing his thunder in the pool any time soon.)
