Prince Avenue Christian has found the program’s next head football coach as offensive coordinator, Jon Richt, has been named as the fifth head coach in the program’s brief history.
Richt is replacing longtime head coach Greg Vandagriff who has been at the helm of the football program since he took over for Jeff Herron in 2016. During his time with the Wolverines, Vandagriff won 107 games in nine seasons including a current streak of five-straight state championship appearances, having a record of 3-2 in those games.
Prince Avenue Christian is coming off of a 56-28 loss in last year’s state championship game to Hebron Christian as the Lions were able to break the Wolverines chances of earning a three-peat, earning their first state championship in the process.
Under Vandagriff, the Wolverines were very successful including winning six region championships, as well as the programs first-ever state championship in 2020, followed by back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023.
Richt, the son of former University of Georgia head football coach, Mark Richt, has been the offensive coordinator for the Wolverines for the last three seasons when the Prince Avenue Christian offense averaged just around 44 points per game, including a 38-5 record.
The former offensive coordinator-turned head coach played quarterback for the Wolverines when the Prince Avenue Christian varsity football team was established in 2005. After graduating, Richt spent time at Clemson before finishing his career at Mars Hill College in 2012.
