In Georgia’s highest classification, the Grayson Rams open up the year No. 1. According to Maxpreps, the Gwinnett-based powerhouse is the No. 5 ranked team in the nation. Lowndes, Parkview, Colquitt County and Gwinnett County round out the top 5 and defending Class 6A state champion Harrison comes in at No. 10 after joining the classification.
Carrollton debuts at No. 1 in Class 6A ahead of Valdosta and defending Class 5A state champion Buford. In Class 5A, three-time defending Class 4A state champion Blessed Trinity makes its debut at No. 1. Blessed Trinity’s departure from Class 4A opens up the classification and Marist makes its debut at No. 1.
In Class AAA, Crisp County returns a major portion of last year’s runner-up team and debuts at the top of the classification. Cedar Grove, the defending state champions, begin the year at No. 2. Peach County enters the season ranked third ahead of Hart County and the 2019 4A runner-up Oconee County. Greater Atlanta Christian enters the year at No. 6 with Pierce County at No. 7. New additions into the classification, Burke County and Sandy Creek, are No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Westminster rounds out the top 10 at No. 10.
Callaway, a 2019 semifinalist, opens the season at the top-ranked program in Class 2A ahead of Rabun County, a quarterfinalists last season. Thomasville advanced to the semifinals last season and opens its year at No. 3. Former AAA program Pace Academy is No. 4 with Fitzgerald at No. 5. Washington County enters at No. 6 with another former AAA team, Lovett, at No. 7. Swainsboro, Jefferson County and Bleckley County finish out the top 10.
ELCA has won five-straight state championships in Class A-Private and opens the season at the top of the poll. Athens Academy is at No. 2 with Wesleyan, Prince Avenue Christian and Holy Innocents’ in the top 5. Hebron Christian opens the year at No. 5 ahead of No. 7 Fellowship Christian, No. 8 Christian Heritage, No. 9 Darlington and No. 10 Savannah Country Day.
Irwin County won the state championship with a 56-14 victory over Marion County last season and enters the year at the top of the class. Brooks County, the Class 2A runner up, is at No. 2 with Dublin, the sitting Class 2A champs, at No. 3. Clinch County opens at No. 4 and Mitchell County fills the top 5. Marion County is at No. 6 with No. 7 Pelham, No. 8 Lincoln County, No. 9 Wilcox County and No. 10 Commerce chasing.
