PREGAME BLOG: Georgia looking to clinch second in East with win over Wildcats

Georgia faces Kentucky tonight in a game that can guarantee that the Dawgs finish the regular season with a winning record overall and in the SEC. A win can also put the Dawgs even further into the race for a New Years’ Day Bowl game by clinching second place in the SEC East.

UGA (6-4, 4-3) is also recovering from the unexpected loss of Uga VII earlier this week, an event that saddened fans across this state. The school will place a wreath at the mascot’s doghouse today, which will be empty at a football game for the first time in memory.

Several thousand Georgia fans will wear black to honor the passing of the mascot and it will be interesting to see if Mark Richt and his team pull any more black uniform gimmicks.

CATS HAVE OWN MOTIVATION
With a win today, Kentucky (6-4, 2-4) will have won six games for the fourth-straight season for the first time since 1953-1956. The Cats became bowl eligible with a 24-13 win against Vanderbilt last weekend.
The Cats have not beaten UGA in Athens since 1977, a streak of 15 games. But UK won at Auburn earlier this year where they hadn’t won since 1961. Rich Brooks’ Wildcats know they can win on the road and will play with confidence tonight.

However, star offensive weapon Randall Cobb may not be available tonight. Cobb, who plays wide receiver and quarterback, is questionable for the game tonight with a shoulder injury.
Cobb led the Cats last season with three touchdowns against the Dawgs after playing the entire game at quarterback. UGA escaped with a fortunate 42-38 victory in Lexington. It
It is safe to say that, without, Cobb playing, the Cats’ chances of pulling the upset go down severely.

INJURIES
UGA WR AJ Green is questionable today with a shoulder injury.
UGA Safety Bacarri Rambo is doubtful after having a concussion last week against Auburn.
UK LB Micah Johnson is probable with a knee injury.
