Mark Fox’s Georgia Bulldogs will host Florida today in the fourth-consecutive Saturday home SEC home game for the Bulldogs. One thing to watch in this game is how UGA (12-14, 4-9) responds from their heart-breaking 96-94 overtime loss at Vanderbilt on Thursday night. The Dawgs will be playing on less than 48 hours rest. The Gators (20-8, 9-4) come into the game having won their last three, including a 75-62 home win against No. 19 Tennessee on Tuesday. That win looks even more impressive after the Vols’ upset win over No. 2 Kentucky earlier today.
The game today features Florida’s scoring defense, which is third in the league, and Georgia’s prowess in rebounding the basketball. Georgia is second in the SEC in rebounding margin and first in rebounding defense, limiting opponents to just 31.6 boards a game.
Florida coach Billy Donovan comes into today having had a lot of success against Georgia in his 14th season in Gainesville. Donovan is 20-8 against UGA and 8-4 in Athens.
Earlier this year, the Gators won their eighth in a row at home over the Bulldogs with a 87-71 win on Jan. 27. Florida had three players score over 209 points in that game, including Alex Tyus who led the Gators with 23. Trey Thompkins made 10-12 shots from the field on his way to scoring 24 points for the Dawgs.
