Positive Athlete has announced their tenth-annual Regional Award Winners for the Atlanta Region, a region consisting of schools inside of Interstate 285 and all of DeKalb County. Athletes representing 27 different boys’ and girls’ high school sports, two coaches, and North Atlanta High School have been recognized as the most positive in their respective categories. The winners were chosen from 6,800 different nominations by coaches, principals, ADs, teachers, and parents.
The 27 different high school athletes come from 24 different schools and represent the 27 different categories of Positive Athlete honors. The 27 different recipients are Adonis Wimbush from Carver-Atlanta, Alan Gomez from Cross Keys, Amillia Mutert from Dunwoody, Anissa Brailsford from Druid Hills, Ansley Harrison from Chamblee Charter, Baikal Miller and Sisi Elkinson from Paideia, Briana Smith from South Atlanta, Brooke Shelton from Booker T. Washington, Devon McClendon from Towers, Dionte Ashford from Southwest DeKalb, Dominick Reynolds from Cedar Grove, Eden McCarthy from Redan, Emma Kelly from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal, Graham Bauer and Martha Crisp from North Atlanta, Indiana Crawford from Lakeside-DeKalb, Jason Bond from Lithonia, Jaylen Smith and Shavion Jackson from M.L. King, Joel Joseph from Columbia, Keegan Nelson from Woodward Academy, Mar’Quavious Clayton from B.E.S.T. Academy, Olivia Pajer from St. Pius X, Virginia Laster from Midtown, Will Moore from Pace Academy, and Zoie Robinson from Arabia Mountain.
Two coaches were honored as Regional Award Winners. Frederick Douglass head football coach Stanley Pritchett was named the boys’ coach recipient of the award after helping lead the Astros to a 6-5 record, their best record since 2019. The girls’ coach recipient was Tucker girls’ head soccer coach Desmond Lee, who led the Tigers to a 12-8-1 record, their best season since 2017.
Along with the athletes and coaches, North Atlanta High School was named the Most Positive High School in the region, being honored over many other deserving schools in the region.
The recipients will be recognized on their high school campuses in early May. All the regional award winners are now up for consideration to win the statewide award in the category they won their regional award in. The 2024 statewide awards will be held at an award ceremony in early June where all statewide awards and scholarship winners will be honored.
