Playoff hopes fade with losses to Central Gwinnett, Dacula

The football team couldn’t get anything going offensively against a resurgent Central Gwinnett team, losing 37-0 on Oct. 24. The Patriots had no answer for Diante Drake, Central’s game-breaking running back. Drake’s 200 yards rushing and three scores put any doubt of the outcome to rest, with 150 of those yards coming in the first quarter. The game marked the first time that Berkmar has been shut out all year. The shutout dashed any playoff hopes, but the Patriots wanted to have a better showing in their next game. The team didn’t fare much better against Dacula, losing to the Falcons 17-3 on Halloween Night. The Berkmar offense has failed to score double digits for the fifth time in nine games, but will look to turn the tide in its season finale against 3-6 South Gwinnett. A win against the Comets will give the Patriots a 4-6 record for the 2008 campaign. The Patriots currently sit at 2-5 in Region 8-AAAAA, good for seventh place ahead of Shiloh and Meadowcreek.
