Pirates will look for first victory against a desperate Miller Grove

The football team played Marist at Avondale Stadium last Friday as fans continued to support the Pirates. The final score was 45-13 in Marist’s favor, dropping the Pirates to a record of 0-2. The Pirates will go up against Miller Grove at Hallford Stadium on Friday night. Both teams are in the 6B-AAAA subregion, and both are looking for their first win of the year. (Miller Grove tied Redan and lost to Southwest DeKalb.) Stone Mountain is 1-1 all-time against Miller Grove; the Pirates defeated the Wolverines 31-0 back in 2006. … Five players from last year’s football team are now playing on Saturdays. Quarterback Edward Davis signed with Virginia State, wide receiver Charles “Chip” Reeves signed with Troy, and three players (Lamar Gordon, Chauncey Ward and Rodney Thomas) signed with North Iowa Community College. Reeves is seeing game action as a true freshman with the Trojans. … Current senior Milton Meeks, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound linebacker, is getting some recruiting attention. Meeks has offers from South Alabama, Liberty and Louisiana-Monroe, but is also getting looks from some BCS conference schools as well.
