PANTHER BEAT: Tami Ores named volleyball coach at State

Ores Named Head Volleyball Coach

ATLANTA–Tami Ores, formerly the associate head coach and recruiting
coordinator at the University of Maryland, has been named head
volleyball coach at Georgia State University.

In addition to two seasons at Maryland, Ores (pronounced ORRS) served
as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for a
highly-successful program at the University of Dayton, which earned four
NCAA Tournament berths in her five years there.

"We are delighted to welcome Tami Ores to the Georgia State family as
our head volleyball coach," said Director of Athletics Cheryl L.
Levick. "She is a very talented young coach and a top-level recruiter.
When you combine her recruiting skills with excellent player
development, she is the right person to build our volleyball program to
a championship level."

In five seasons at Dayton (2003-07), Ores helped head coach Tim Horsmon
lead the Flyers to unprecedented success, winning the Atlantic 10
Conference Tournament and reaching the NCAA Tournament four out of five
years (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007), the first conference titles and NCAA
berths in school history.

In her final season, the Flyers were ranked as high as No. 12 in the
nation in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll before finishing with a 33-2
record.

Ores was part of a coaching staff that produced four consecutive A-10
Players of the Year (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), back-to-back Atlantic 10
Setters of the Year (2005, 2006), two A-10 Rookies of the Year (2003,
2007), four A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Players (2003, 2004, 2005,
2007), 16 all-conference performers and eight AVCA honorable mention
All-Americans.

A former collegiate setter, Ores worked directly with the Flyers’
setters, tutoring 2005 A-10 Setter of the Year Nicole Schott and 2006
honoree Erin Schroeder, who also earned honorable mention all-America
accolades.

"I am honored to be named the volleyball coach at Georgia State
University, and I want to thank Cheryl Levick and [Executive Senior
Associate Athletics Director] James Greenwell for this outstanding
opportunity," said Ores. "I am eager to see what this Georgia State
volleyball program can grow into. My sights are set on conference
championships and NCAA tournament berths.

"Downtown Atlanta is a great setting for a university," Ores
continued. "With the academic success of Georgia State University and
the working opportunities in Atlanta, combined with Cheryl Levick’s
leadership of GSU athletics, I am excited to recruit a special
student-athlete to re-define this Panther program."

At Dayton, Ores built a reputation as an outstanding recruiter,
assembling three straight recruiting classes that were ranked among the
nation’s top 30 by PrepVolleyball.com. Her first full recruiting class
at Dayton in 2004 was rated No. 28, followed by a No. 30 ranking in 2005
and then a No. 22 national ranking for the Flyers’ 2006 class.

In 2008, Ores moved with Horsmon to Maryland, and she was promoted to
associate head coach for the 2009 season.

"We’re very excited for Tami," said Horsmon. "She’s put in a
lot of hard work, and it’s neat to see that pay off for her. She’s a
great recruiter, and she did a great job in the gym training players.
She is ready to take that next step."

Ores earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Xavier in
2001. She was a standout setter for the Musketeers, earning All-Atlantic
10 Conference honors as a senior, when she ranked seventh in the nation
in assists per game. The two-time team captain led Xavier to an average
of nearly 20 wins per season in her four-year career.

Ores began her coaching career in 2001 with the 14 Open team at the
Cincinnati Mizuno Classics. She then coached the Delaware (Ohio) High
School team in 2002.

Ores takes over a Georgia State program that returns six starters from
last season’s 16-14 campaign.

A native of Pontiac, Ill., Ores is engaged to Kelly Audia, and the
couple will be married in June.
