PANTHER PROWL: Curry, White honored by CAA

Georgia State senior guard Dante Curry and freshman guard Devonta White were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday afternoon for their play during the Dr Pepper Classic last week. Curry was named co-player of the week, while White took home his first rookie of the week honor. The duo was instrumental in the Panthers tournament win in Chattanooga last Wednesday and Thursday.

Curry, who was named tournament MVP, came off the bench to score 18 points in 25 minutes against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday as the Panthers cruised to a 72-42 win over the Islanders. The native of Orlando, Fla. went 6-of-10 from three-point range, while pulling down

four rebounds. Against Chattanooga, the senior tied a career-high with 21 points, making his first start of the season. He knocked down 7-of-12 from three-point range in just 22 minutes.

For the week, Curry shot 13-of-24 from the floor and 13-of-22 from three-point range. He had been averaging just 5.9 points per game entering the tournament, but raised his average to 8.9 points per game and is shooting 47.1 percent from three-point range. White, who has now started four straight games at point guard, tied his career-high with 14 points, dished out five assists and grabbed three boards in the Panthers win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The freshman

hit 5-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line in 20 minutes of action. He followed in the championship game by scoring 10 points, dishing out four assists and grabbing a pair of rebounds in 24 minutes against Chattanooga. The Alpharetta native was a perfect 2-of-2 from the line

and hit two three-pointers to lift State to the championship. Since taking over at point guard, the Panthers are 3-1, with their lone loss coming in overtime. He is averaging 7.5 points per game, while dishing out just under three assists per contest. Curry and White are the first two Panthers to be honored by the league this season.
