Baseball’s Moniz Named to Brooks Wallace Award List
Lubbock, Texas – Georgia State baseball senior shortstop Carl Moniz has been named to the 2010 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List as one of the top shortstops in the county by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday.
The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
Moniz, a standout from Laval, Quebec, is having an outstanding season at the plate. The senior is batting .451 for the Panthers, who currently rank first in the nation in batting average and runs per game. Moniz has belted a pair of home runs this year to go along with 27 runs scored and 24 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead with two triples, to go along with six doubles, while garnering a .517 on base percentage. Moniz has also done some damage on the base paths, stealing five bases.
Moniz is one of just two players of the Colonial Athletic Association. A total of 54 players from throughout the country were named to the list.
It marks the third straight season that a member of the Georgia State baseball team has been name to the list. Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas earned the honor in 2008, while current senior Bradley Logan was named to the list in 2009.
