ATLANTA – Georgia State junior David Buchanan has been announced as the CAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference office. It marks the third time this season a member of the Georgia State baseball team has earned CAA weekly honors.
Buchanan allowed just seven hits over a career-best 8.1 innings pitched in Georgia State’s 2-1 CAA opening victory over Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon. The Peachtree City, Ga. native struck out a career-high 12 batters and retired 11 straight at one point in the game. He also struck out all three batters he faced in both the first and sixth innings.
"Everyone in our organization is very happy for David," commented head coach Greg Frady. "His performance was a great way to open conference season and knowing that we have a pitcher who can win on Friday nights is both what we want and every team needs. He is living up to the expectations we have set for him. The 12 strikeouts is extremely impressive, however, not allowing a walk all afternoon is even more impressive to me. It shows the hard work and dedication to improving his game that David has put forth this season."
For the season, Buchanan is 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in five starts. He has struck out 33 in just 27.2 innings pitched.
