The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team will take part in the 2012 preseason WNIT, it was announced Tuesday. New coach Nitra Perry’s squad will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee in the first round of the tournament. The 16-team tournament begins Friday, Nov. 9, and the field is loaded with 11 teams coming off a 2011 postseason berth.
“I am extremely excited to play Middle Tennessee State,” said Perry in a statement released by KSU. “They are a great team that has established a tradition of winning and will be an excellent bar for which Kennesaw State can measure itself against. This is an awesome opportunity and challenge for our program.”
Middle Tennessee went 26-7 last year, good enough to make the NCAA tournament. Should the Owls win, Round 2 would see an opponent of either Memphis or Grambling State on Nov. 11. All rounds are held at participating campus sites and each participant is guaranteed at least three games. The semifinals will be held Nov. 14-15 with the championship set for Nov. 18. The field also includes Davidson, Delaware, Duquesne, Georgetown, Illinois State, Iowa, Liberty, Morehead State, UNC, Northern Illinois, Sacred Heart and Sam Houston State.
