The Kennesaw State University men’s and women’s basketball teams are set and ready to begin the season. The teams started off the season with the fourth annual Black and Gold Scrimmage, which is held in the KSU Convocation Center. Men’s head coach Tony Ingle and women’s head coach Colby Tilley addressed the crowd before game to let them know how important the fan base and student support would be this season. Student support has always been an important aspect of college basketball and the Owls got a taste of that last season. After beating rival Mercer, the Owls upset No. 1 seed Lipscomb in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament last season and look to continue their success this season. The team scrimmaged for about 15 minutes each to give the crowd a taste of what the season will hold. Included in the scrimmage were some new faces in the familiar black and gold.
The men’s team includes five transfer students, but only four will be eligible for the 2010-11 season per NCAA rules. All four athletes bring a different skill set and will look to break the rotation for the Owls this season. Head coach Tony Ingle realizes the skill set he has available to him and hopes to take full advantage this season.
“Every one of these players is coming in with a clean slate, and so far I am pleased with their effort and performance on and off the court,” Ingle said recently. “I look forward to seeing how they progress as a group throughout the season.”
The Lady Owls will begin their official season against the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Fla. Nov. 12. The men’s team will play Georgia Southwestern at the KSU Convention Center on Nov. 12 as well.
