ON THE TRAILS: Tinkey still on fire

First Presbyterian star Grace Tinkey continued to tear up the cross country trails as she paid a visit to Wesleyan last Saturday. Tinkey sprinted away from the rest of the field in 17:45, almost two minutes faster than any other runner.  Teammate Victoria Coppage finished second with a time of 19:27.

The Vikings’ one-two punch paved the way to a team victory over second-place Johns Creek and third-place Providence Christian. … Last Saturday’s Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational provided teams with a chance to get their first look at the state meet course. Four different classifications for both genders gave us eight champions. On the boys’ side, top team honors went to Westminster (A-AAA), McIntosh (AAAA), Walton (AAAAA) and Peachtree Ridge (Championship). The Landmark Christian girls (A-AAA) raced to victory along with McIntosh (AAAA), Walton (AAAAA) and Woodstock (Championship). … Both Championship meets featured thrilling action. The Peachtree Ridge boys edged St. Pius X 97-100 behind a third-place individual showing by Josh Brickell. Austin Sprague of St. Pius finished two-tenths of a second in front of Brickell while fellow Golden Lion Calvin Tirrell came in fourth at 16:39. Woodstock’s girls squeaked by Westminster 72 points to 74. Both teams put two runners in the Top 10; Morgan O’Toole and Alexandra Melehan for the Wolverines and Michelle Sullivan and Sahara Fletcher for the Wildcats. … Roswell hosted the Covered Bridge Invitational last Saturday and the home team was a factor in both races. The Lady Hornets put four runners in the Top 10 overall for victory and finished 30 points clear of both Lassiter and Centennial. On the boys’ side, Pope’s Patrick Fleming was first overall in 16:28 and led the Greyhounds past second-place Roswell 50 points to 79.
