Buford finished 5-1 in its 19th annual softball invitational to win its respective bracket. Three of the Wolves’ victories in pool play were shutouts; Tessa Daniels, who went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a save, pitched two of the shutouts. This lowered her overall ERA to 1.31. At the plate, Tennessee-commit Lexi Overstreet and freshman Jordan Deep carried the team.
Both hit .667 with Overstreet having three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs while Deep scattered 12 hits and drove in five runs. “[Lexi] is an outstanding player that swings the bat well, has a really good idea of what she is doing and has unbelievable skills,” stated Buford coach Tony Wolfe. “Jordan Deep is a freshman and on the opposite end and a really good-hearted player, but as a 14-year-old freshman, she is learning the high school game.” … Kennesaw Mountain also finished 5-1 at the Brookwood Invitational with wins over South Gwinnett, Jackson County, Whitewater, Northgate and Lowndes with the lone loss coming in a 4-2 game to North Gwinnett. Malea Bell went 8-for-14 with three doubles and four RBIs while Ally Box hit .500 and stole three bases and scored three as well. Bell is hitting .472 with 32 RBIs for the year and Box has scored 23 runs and stolen 12 bases and has a .493 average for the year. … On Monday, North Gwinnett defeated Peachtree Ridge 12-3 in a region matchup. Morgan White earned the victory to improve to 6-1 on the year. Senior Sydney O’Neill leads the team with a .490 batting average. The Bulldogs currently are 20-8-1 and third in the region with a game against first place Mill Creek on Thursday. … After a 4-2 showing at the Brookwood Invitational, Greater Atlanta Christian will begin play in its region tournament on Wednesday. Heading into the tournament, Sierra Lawrence leads the team with a staggering .620 batting average, 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and 37 stolen bases. Pitcher Natalie deLatour is 11-3 with a 1.10 ERA heading into the tournament. … The Region 8-AAAAA regular season title was on the line Tuesday night when Archer and Brookwood put their undefeated region records on the line. Brookwood prevailed in a 6-2 victory but needed to overcome an early Archer lead. After scoring both of their runs in the first, the Tigers were held scoreless the remainder of the game. Broncos’ sophomore Taiylor Rinehart went 1-for-2 but hit a game tying single in the first that scored Megan Litumbe and Mandy Blackwell, who scored two runs on the night. Nani Cabrales started for the Tigers and entered the game with a 2.01 ERA.
