Even with two national titles and a Heisman Trophy, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will wait another year before heading to the NFL. The junior told reporters Sunday, “Overall, I just felt loyal to this place. I feel like I’m a role model and a lot of times people start things and don’t finish them. I didn’t want to be like that. I wanted to be loyal to the university. I wanted to finish what I started and play another year.”
In 2007, Tebow became the first sophomore to win a Heisman Trophy. Along with a national title in 2006, Tebow led the Gators to the 2008 national title after completing 18 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns against Oklahoma on Jan. 8. He also rushed for 109 yards in the contest.
In his three seasons at Florida, Tebow has passed for 6,391 yards and 67 touchdowns (he only had 358 passing yards and five touchdown passes as a freshman). He has also rushed for a total of 63 touchdowns. On Nov. 1, 2008, after falling to the Georgia Bulldogs the previous year, Tebow threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns and also had three rushing touchdowns in a 49-10 win for the Gators.
