Dylan Schorr lined up for a 43-yard field goal with seconds left to win the game, but his kick fell a yard short as Milton held on for a season opening road win. The Eagles took a first quarter lead on a Cam Adams 33-yard touchdown run. Jaycee Horn picked off a Milton pass and returned it 45 yards to set up a Nolan Edmonds touchdown run to bring the Raiders within 7-6. Jordan Yates answered with a 54-yard touchdown run and Lucas Moore intercepted a pass as Milton took a 14-6 lead into the half. Matthew Downing hit Carlos Carriere for a 15-yard score with 8:11 to play in the third quarter to wrap up the Alpharetta scoring.
Fellowship Christian 35, Atkinson County 15
How the game was won: Fellowship Christian quarterback Jack Hardin threw three of his four touchdown passes in the second quarter to give the Paladins a 21-3 halftime lead.
Top performers: Jack Hardin led Fellowship Christian with 200 yards passing and four touchdowns. Merrick Haigler caught a 45-yard touchdown and a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter and teammate Trey Robinson added a 50-yard touchdown reception. Andrew Johnson ran in a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter before Hardin hit Ryan Reid for an 83-yard touchdown catch in the final seconds of the period.
Woodward Academy 36, Westminster 17
How the game was won: Woodward raced out to a 21-7 halftime lead and tacked on 15 points in the fourth quarter to keep Westminster at bay.
Top performers: Woodward quarterback Ryan Glover and running back Tahj Gary accounted for all five of the War Eagles’ touchdowns, with Glover scoring on two short rushes in the first and second quarters and Gary scoring on an 11-yard run in the second and TDs of four yards and one yard in the fourth. Gary finished with 93 yards rushing on 15 carries, and Glover was 15-of-20 passing for 252 yards. Joshua Johnson led the team with 76 receiving yards.
