There will be at least one and there could three defending state champions participating in a deep pool of teams in the 2014 Metro PCS Corky Kell Classic. The event expanded from five games to seven this year and will play a double-header at McEachern’s Walter Cantrell Stadium on Friday, Aug. 22. Creekview and North Paulding will kick off the two-day event with a 5:30 pm kickoff and Sandy Creek and Archer will meet in Friday night’s 8:30 pm primetime slot.

Saturday will be like this past year’s five-game marathon. Kell and Carrollton will kickoff at 8:45 am and Mill Creek and McEachern set up a Gwinnett County showdown in the 11:30 am slot. Valdosta and Brookwood tee off at 2:30 pm and will be followed by another North vs. South showdown between Colquitt County and either North Gwinnett or Norcross at 5:30 pm. In the final time slot (8:30 pm) will be Tucker and either Norcross or North Gwinnett. So why the wait? If Tucker wins the Class AAAAA state championship this Friday, the winner of the Class AAAAAA state championship (Norcross or North Gwinnett) would likely be slated to face the Tigers and set up a must-see clash between state champions in the nightcap.

Executive Director Dave Hunter considers this one most competitive lineups of games the event has seen in its 23 years.

*All seven games will be televised by Comcast Sports South (CSS).
