Here’s what’s happening today on the national and local recruiting scenes:

Marlon Brown, a 6-foot-5 wide receiver from Memphis, Tenn., has signed to play football at the University of Georgia. He announced his choice on ESPNU over finalists Tennessee, Ohio State and Mississippi. Brown is the No. 5 wide receiver in the country according to Rivals.com.
- Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones picked Southern Cal over finalists Florida, Georgia, LSU and Texas.
- Plant (Fla.) receiver Orson Charles announced today that he has eliminated FSU from contention. Charles will visit Southern Cal this coming weekend, and will choose in the next week or so between the Trojans, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
- Chamberlain (Fla.) athlete Dontae Aycock has signed with Auburn after seriously considering the Jackets. He will play running back in college after looking at Tech as a potential quarterback.
- Carver-Atlanta defensive back Darren Myles, who eliminated the Jackets from contention last week, committed to Tennessee this morning. His teammate Demond Dennis, who decommitted from Tech two months ago, has signed with New Mexico.
- OT Bobby Massie, the nation’s top prep school prospect, had plans to visit UGA last week before canceling at the last minute. Today Massie signed with Ole Miss over the Bulldogs and Alabama.
- Cedar Grove DT Vinson Bass has signed on with Troy.
- Northside-Warner Robins linebacker Eric Fields, a long-time Clemson commit, is rumored to be having grade issues.
- Top safety prospect Jawanza Starling of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee chose Southern Cal to play both football and basketball over Notre Dame and Georgia. He’s the 20th-ranked prospect in Florida according to Rivals.com.
- Stone Mountain High School linebacker Robert Nelson has chosen Tennessee as his college destination. He joins fellow area linebacker prospect Nigel Mitchell-Thornton, of Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, in Knoxville.
- East Paulding running back Jahron Brown has switched his commitment from Arkansas to Jacksonville State, signing with the Gamecocks earlier today.
- Bastrop (La.) wide receiver Rueben Randle, the nation’s second-ranked player overall according to Rivals.com, has signed a letter of intent to play at Georgia-rival LSU. He chose the Tigers over Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn. Randle is LSU’s 26th commitment for 2009 and will likely give the Tigers the nation’s No. 1 class.
- Gainesville defensive tackle Josh Jackson, a two-star prospect according to Rivals.com, signed a letter of intent to Auburn today.
- Sandy Creek wide receiver Braxton Lane has committed to Oregon and plans to sign a letter of intent later on Wednesday. Lane skipped his senior season of football in order to concentrate on baseball; he is expected to be an early-round draft pick if he decides to play professionally and forgo a college football career.
