The Patriots have hired Campbell offensive coordinator Brad Watkins who has spent the last two seasons with the Spartans. Before that, he spent two seasons with Cedartown as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator.
Over the past four years, his offenses have consistently improved. His two seasons at Cedartown stand as the two highest-scoring seasons in school history, including a 2022 campaign that saw the school make the finals while scoring 572 points, nearly 100 more points than the next best season and 107 more points than the best season without him calling plays.
His two seasons at Campbell saw remarkable improvement. In 2023, the team scored 186 points. While that number may not be impressive for most schools, it was a remarkable improvement from 2022, when the school scored only 117 points, and the highest mark since the 2018 campaign. The 2024 season saw even more improvement, with the team scoring 239 points and posting a winning record. That was the most points scored since the 2013 season and the first winning record since 2007.
The Patriots are coming off their worst season since 2006. The team went just 2-9 in 2024, continuing a trend of diminishing offensive production since the team’s 2022 quarterfinals appearance. Watkins’ offensive mind will be very helpful for the Patriots to get back on track. The defense will also need some work, as Mt. Pisgah has given up more than 40 points in 10 of its last 22 games, dating back to the 2023 season.
Coach Watkins’ first chance to be a head coach will not be an easy job. However, the school has all the resources, and he has the experience to lead the Patriots back to prominence. While the team is in a tough region and has struggled the past few years, the future is bright at Mt. Pisgah.
