In our third toughest schedules edition, we run down the most imposing slates in Class AAAA. In order to come up with these rankings, we consider the toughness of the region schedule, non-region schedule and the amount of teams faced from our preseason rankings.
5. Cairo – The Syrupmakers play local rivals Thomasville and Thomas County Central (No. 3 in 5A) as well as Class 5A Bainbridge before beginning play in Region 1, a fairly solid region. Region play confronts Cairo with games against Westover and Monroe-Albany.
4. Baldwin – There are a lot of quality programs in middle Georgia and the Braves face three of them prior to beginning play in a solid Region 2. Baldwin opens with Jefferson County of Class AAA (who has been tearing it up in 7-on-7s this summer), then hosts Class AAA No. 2 Peach County and ends the non-region slate with Class AAA No. 8 Washington County.
In Region 2, the Braves face Perry, No. 8 Westside-Macon and Mary Persons, among others.
3. Crisp County – The Cougars did themselves no favors by scheduling Class AA No. 7 Cook followed by 6A-power Valdosta to start the season. Crisp will then begin region play against the likes of Cairo, Monroe and Westover.
2. Veterans – The Warhawks are another middle Georgia program who scheduled locally in non-region games, and just so happened to pit themselves against some very solid opponents. Veterans faces No. 2 Northside-Warner Robins of Class AAAAA and Warner Robins as well as Harris County, which finished 8-5.
Then, in Region 2 play, Veterans plays Westside-Macon, Mary Persons and Baldwin.
1. Monroe – The Tornadoes will hit the ground running this year with three non-region games against top 5 opponents. Monroe opens with Class AA No. 2 Brooks County before facing Class A-Public No. 2 Wilcox County, then Class AA No. 4 Fitzgerald. Those three battles precede a tough Region 1 schedule that includes No. 4 Cairo and Westover.
