AAAAAA

It was a packed house, for the State Championship of Georgia’s the highest classification. Region rivals Milton and Roswell were in extra innings in the deciding Game 3. Roswell pitcher Alex Schnell was tossing another brilliant playoff performance giving up one unearned run, and finally got the run support he needed. Nick Bradshaw doubled to right center in the eighth inning, and Dalon Farkas hit the game winning RBI.

AAAA

Redan continued its storied season with a sweep over Marist in the AAAA championship. Marist baseball is one of the more decorated programs in the state with 12 state titles. This becomes Redan’s first state title, making it feel much sweeter for the Raiders and their legendary coach, Marvin Pruitt. The series was the last in the state to play its Game 1, but Redan was ready and made quick work of Marist. They raced ahead in Game 1 and ended it in the 5th inning with an 11-0 mercy rule decision. In Game 2 Brandon Baker’s RBI gave the Raiders an early lead in the 1st inning. Bakari Gayle and Wesley Jones pushed the lead to 4-1 with a pair of base hits. Marist closed the gap to 4-3 heading into the final inning, but the Cinderella run held and Redan claimed AAAA’s crown.

AA

Westminster was two outs away from the AA state title, when the Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal Game 2, 4-3 and force a Game 3. Mitch Stallings took the mound in the final game for Lovett and allowed five hits in the win. Westminster had won four straight games against Lovett prior to the Game 2 comeback and Lovett got the two most important wins. Getting guys on base was something Lovett was able to do from the start of Game 3, and their fifth run in the 5-2 win came on a bases loaded walk.
