The Mill Creek Hawks have pulled out of the 2020 Corky Kell Classic, due to a player testing positive for COVID-19, and will no longer be playing Friday’s home game against Parkview. The two Gwinnett powerhouses were originally scheduled to meet for the first time in school history in the 8:30 p.m. time slot of Friday’s double-header before Tuesday’s announcement of a positive case within the program forced the cancellation.
Immediately after receiving the news, Corky Kell’s management team began searching for a replacement matchup to fill the slot. However, later Tuesday night, Mill Creek said it would appeal its situation to Gwinnett County’s superintendent. The Classic has given Mill Creek until Wednesday at 5 p.m. to get a final decision from the county office. If Mill Creek cannot play, Parkview may end up facing Class AAA Hart County. The Panthers would host the game. Another option for the slot would be St. Pius X playing at Flowery Branch. Keep coming back here for more details.
The 29th edition of the Corky Kell Classic will kick off its four-day, nine-game schedule Wednesday, Sept. 2 with a double-header featuring Carver at Cherokee and Mays at West Forsyth. Broadcasting partner Peachtree TV will televise all four days of this year’s lineup
