Mays’ Khalil Brooks is a versatile athlete and accomplished student. He transferred from Westlake in Atlanta and is playing corner, running back and free safety for Mays this year. Last year, he had 40 tackles and forced two fumbles.

At 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Brooks is intimidating to line up against, for a receiver trying to get by him or a defender trying to slow him down. He runs a 4.6 and has a bench press of 250 pounds. He used that speed as the only underclassman to make Mays’ 4×100 varsity track team.

To go along with his great physical ability, Khalil has a tremendous commitment to academics. Every summer he has attended Westminster for a program called Odyssey. The program is held for gifted students in Atlanta Public Schools system. This program is in place to help students in Atlanta graduate high school and go on to attend institutes of higher education. Odyssey has had an obvious impact on Khalil’s life as he has been able to balance his football career and still manage to be in the top 10 percent of his class with an impressive 3.8 GPA.

There have been several colleges looking at him, and he is approaching this year as a way to showcase his abilities. He has worked hard to succeed on and off the field and it shows up in his stat line as well as his academic accomplishments. He believes he should be in the discussion when deciding who the top defensive backs are in the state. His goal this year is to be named All-Region as well as All-State along with winning the state title in Class AAAAA. Khalil is already on many schools’ radars as a prospect, but with his focus and work ethic he will make it obvious that he is a must-have for any football team.
