War Eagles outlast Panthers, 27-21

The football team won its seventh game in a row, beating a strong Southwest DeKalb team 27-21. A quick start was the key for Marist, as the War Eagles jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first half behind three touchdown runs from fullback Matt Connors. Sam McNearny recovered an onside kick with under two minutes to play to ice the game. If Marist beats Lithonia and Lakeside-DeKalb over the next two weeks, the War Eagles will be crowned region champs. … The softball season concluded with the a state championship. The team hit .300 during sectionals and didn’t lose a game in the Elite Eight en route to the title. The championship is the softball team’s first in school history “We certainly thought we’d have a chance to get here,” Marist head coach Mike Trapani said about the season, “but to be able to finish the deal is how I will remember it.” … The volleyball team didn’t lose a game in the first three rounds of the state tournament, beating Hiram, Northwest Whitfield and Sandy Creek. The War Eagles begin Final Four play on Thursday.
