Marietta takes down Harrison to earn spot in region tourney finals

In the second round of the region tournament, the Marietta boys basketball team played Harrison. Marietta started off the game winning the tip-off and got a good early lead through the first quarter and kept a 29-18 lead at the half. Marietta shut down Harrison’s Vincent Martin, who only put up two points on the night. Chris Tanzy put up 12 points for the Blue Devils and maintained his great defense against the Hoyas.

Marietta came back from the locker room taking care of business and kept its lead, 40-30, by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Harrison came back, tying it up 44-44 with three minutes left. Tanzy responded with a 3-pointer with two defenders on him and knocked it down, putting the score at 47-44. With about a minute and a half left in the game and Marietta on top 50-48, Greg Franklin got a steal and dished it to Kenny Sprague, who was fouled and knocked down one of the two free throws. With 20 seconds left with the score at 57-54, Franklin was fouled and made both free throws, ending the game, 59-54. Tanzy had a very big game, putting 26 points on the score board.
