Losing streak ends at twenty, with 20-point win

The football team broke its county-leading 20-game losing streak last Friday, raising its record to 1-1 with a 34-14 victory over Avondale. The Devils offense, considered a strength before the season, got rolling in the third quarter after leading 14-7 at the half. Quarterback Jay Cromwell hit John Foster for an 11-yard touchdown to make it 21-7 and Avondale never challenged after that. Interestingly, Druid Hills’ last victory came against the Blue Devils in 2006. They will go for win No. 2 on Saturday against Therrell in their Region 5-AAA opener. … The softball team defeated Meadowcreek 20-6 on Wednesday. Shelita Loving went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. They then defeated Columbia 22-7 in three innings behind Loving and Tasha Steward, who both went 2-for-3 on the day. … The volleyball team returns to action after having last week off. The team faced Tucker at 5 p.m. and Miller Grove at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and meet Paideia and Avondale next Tuesday at home. … The cross country team is out of action this week, but is preparing for its next race in the St. Pius Invitational on Saturday.
