Longtime Dunwoody head coach, Mike Nash has announced his next move and will be the next head coach at Chattahoochee County.
Nash embarks on his new journey to Cusseta after spending 10 seasons leading the Dunwoody football program.
“I don‘t feel like I’m leaving Dunwoody, I feel like I’m going to Chattahoochee County,” said Nash.
Nash compiled a record of 34-66 at Dunwoody, ultimately turning the program around. Under Nash’s leadership, the program saw back-to-back playoff appearances in 2023-24 for the first time since 2008-09 as well as the teams first eight-win season since 2008.
“I feel like it’s time for a change, and I want a new challenge,” Nash explained.
“It’s a special place to me and always will be, but nobody is anywhere forever and things come to an end in different seasons in life and I also feel like there are some good folks who want that Dunwoody job that would probably do a better job than I did.”
While proud of the work that was done at Dunwoody, Nash is excited for his new opportunity with the Panthers, while always having the dream of coaching in South Georgia.
“When I grew up, the state championship was still the South Georgia champion against the North Georgia champion, and I always modeled it as to how important football was in South Georgia and on Friday nights I can’t wait to see that stadium fill up for the first time,” Nash added.
Nash will be the fifth head coach at Chattahoochee County in as many seasons, following Pierre Coffey in 2021, Ryan McKenzie in 2022, Josh Jacobson in 2023 and Bruce Figgins in 2024.
Nash is taking over a Chattahoochee County football program that has totaled nine wins in the last three seasons, including three wins a season ago.
The Panthers haven’t made the postseason since 2022 as they were eliminated in the first round by Johnson County, 34-21.
The opportunity to land in Cusseta came to fruition this season after there were preliminary talks a year prior.
“I actually interviewed for this job last year and it just didn’t work out because the timing wasn’t right. Now, I think everything fell in place at the right time, just to be honest, my daughter had my first grandchild around four months ago and her husband (his offensive line coach) wanted to come home and it just worked out this time,” said Nash.
Nash now leaves Dunwoody with a coaching search of their own as they will be looking for a head coach for the first time since 2014.
