Lately the Thrashers have been looking for more from their top scoring line of Slava Kozlov, Todd White and Brian Little. The three of them each scored a point, propelling Atlanta to a hot start in the team’s 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Thrashers scored three goals in the first period, and even came back from a 2-1 deficit in the first 20 minutes. Kozlov started the scoring with an unassisted goal, just 18 seconds into the game. Little bookended the period with Atlanta’s third goal, scoring on a power-play pass from his linemate, Little.
Not all things were perfect in the period however, as Kari Lehtonen struggled in his first start back from a back injury he suffered last month. Lehtonen missed the first two shots he saw, spotting the Lightning a 2-1 lead in the first. Eric Perrin had Lehtonen’s back though, tying the game at 2-2 15 minutes into the period.
The second period was a quiet one, seeing no goals scored. That left the third period with all the excitement to end the game. It started with rookie Joey Crabb scoring his second goal of the season and extending Atlanta’s lead to two. Crabb’s goal would end as the game-winner when Martin St. Louis scored his second of the game with less than three minutes left in regulation.
The victory ended Atlanta’s seven-game home losing streak. Atlanta’s next game will be Monday at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m.
